Aitor Ruibal

Analysis: Ruibal is back in contention after recovering from the knee injury that required surgery at the end of last season. He had remained out of the squad despite returning to training, but his inclusion now gives Manuel Pellegrini another versatile option. Ruibal could initially be eased back into action as he works toward full match sharpness.

Returns to squad against Feyenoord

Ruibal (knee) has been included in Real Betis' squad for Wednesday's Champions League clash against Feyenoord after recovering from a lengthy injury absence, according to the club.

Analysis: Ruibal is finally back in contention for competitive action after undergoing knee surgery at the end of last season. The versatile player has been training with his teammates for several weeks and appears to have fully recovered, although he had remained outside the matchday squad in recent fixtures, seemingly due to coaching decisions rather than ongoing fitness concerns. With Cucho Hernandez (calf) now sidelined, coach Manuel Pellegrini recently suggested that Ruibal could be considered as an additional attacking option, and his inclusion in Wednesday's squad confirms that he is ready to return. However, having yet to make his first competitive appearance of the 2026/27 campaign, Ruibal could initially be limited to a substitute role as he gradually rebuilds his match fitness. His return provides Betis with additional versatility and depth across several positions ahead of a busy stretch of fixtures.
