Analysis: Slater has been the constant in Hull's midfield through the opening three games and has now completed the full 90 minutes in each of them. His attacking involvement peaked against Villa with two shots from distance and a short corner pass that led to Mohamed Belloumi hitting the woodwork, but his large share of set-piece responsibility, which already earned him an assist in the first game, is the part most likely to bring returns rather than any volume from open play. His passing totals have stayed modest, with no more than 20 completed in any match, while he has chipped in with six tackles, two interceptions and three clearances.
Extends Tigers contract
Slater signed a three-year contract extension with Hull City on Thursday. His contract will run until the end of the 2028/29 season, and it includes an option to extend it for a further campaign.
Analysis: Slater started in 38 of his 45 league appearances for Hull City in the 2025/26 season, notching two goals and two assists while operating as a defensive anchor in midfield. He's fulfilling the same role in the 2026/27 season, racking up one assist already but also making five tackles. If he stays healthy, Slater should remain a key presence in the Tigers' midfield for years to come.

Slater registered four tackles (one won) and two clearances in Saturday's 1-0 win over Coventry City. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 51st minute.
Analysis: Slater completed the full 90 minutes and supplied plenty of midfield work, attempting four tackles and adding two clearances as Hull secured another clean sheet. His value to the side extends beyond attacking production, with his energy and defensive positioning helping provide balance in central midfield. Slater should continue to see regular minutes as one of Hull's more reliable two-way options.
Assists first goal in EPL
Slater had an assist with his lone chance created while crossing twice accurately during Saturday's 2-0 win over Manchester United.
Analysis: Slater set up Nobel Mendy in the 38th minute assisting Hull's second goal while leading the club in crosses. The assist was the first in the Premier League for Slater with Saturday being his debut in the competition and put him halfway to all of last season's total in the Championship. Slater also took the lone corner kick of the match for Hull, a role he has sporadically held for the club in past campaigns.
Key role in midfield
Slater was a key figure in Hull's midfield throughout the promotion campaign, providing the defensive cover, work rate and versatility that gave coach Sergej Jakirovic a reliable option across multiple positions in the center of the park.
Analysis: Slater made 45 Championship appearances this season, contributing two goals and two assists while operating primarily in a defensive midfield role and also capable of pushing higher up the pitch when required. His ability to win the ball, protect the backline and transition quickly into attack makes him a useful and adaptable option in any midfield unit, and his set-piece responsibilities add an additional creative dimension to his role in the team. His consistency throughout a demanding campaign helped provide the platform from which Hull could build their promotion push, and the Premier League will require him to operate at a higher intensity and with less time on the ball, but his defensive instincts, reading of the game and set-piece quality give him the tools to contribute meaningfully at the top level.
