Cristian Cásseres Jr.
Signs contract extension through 2028
Casseres signed a contract extension with Toulouse through 2028, according to the club. President Olivier Cloarec said "Cristian has become an essential player for our team and a true pillar of our group."
Analysis: Casseres has made 98 appearances for Toulouse since joining in 2023, contributing four goals and 10 assists, and has helped the club steadily climb the Ligue 1 table, from 11th in his debut season to ninth last year. The Venezuela captain, who came through Deportivo La Guaira's academy before five seasons with the New York Red Bulls in MLS, fended off interest from several European clubs to commit his future to Toulouse.
Five chances created in loss
Casseres generated three shots (one on goal), seven crosses (four accurate) and four corners in Thursday's 1-0 loss to Lille.
Analysis: Casseres took four corners, attempting seven crosses in total, but was unable to help provide an assist as his side lost 1-0 to Lille. In total he created five chances in the game and has created 10 across the three games so far this year. He was also busy defensively winning four of his six attempted tackles, making it 11 tackles won from 14 attempts this season.
Assists in road draw
Casseres assisted once to go with one cross (one accurate) and one corner in Saturday's 2-2 draw versus Brest. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 48th minute.
Analysis: Casseres created Christ Tape's goal in the second half with his first assist in the season. The midfielder helped on defense with eight clearances and a team-high five tackles, while also winning 18 duels. He also received his first yellow card in two starts, though.
Delivers two assists in win
Casseres assisted twice to go with one shot (zero on goal), three crosses (one accurate) and two corners in Sunday's 2-1 victory against Strasbourg.
Analysis: Casseres set the table for both Toulouse goals, first slipping a pinpoint pass to Dayann Methalie for the 43rd minute equalizer before delivering another sharp through ball in the 84th that sprung Emersonn in behind for the game-winner. He was dialed in on both ends for the full 90, racking up three chances created, three crosses, four tackles (two won) and two corners. Casseres now sits on three Ligue 1 assists across 29 appearances and will look to stay productive over the final two matches before a likely summer move with transfer buzz heating up around him.
Scores in 3-2 defeat
Casseres scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Friday's 3-2 loss to Lens.
Analysis: Casseres scored the team's first goal in the match, which was his second in the league campaign. The 26-year-old scored with his only shot on target. Casseres also attempted five tackles but just won one of them.
