Analysis: McBurnie could not get off the mark against Villa despite three shots, the last of them the biggest chance of the match in stoppage time that would have sealed the win. The Scot scored 17 goals in the Championship last season but has yet to translate that into the Premier League, which is no great surprise in a Hull team that commits little to attack and leans on its defence against tougher opponents. Signs contract extension
McBurnie signed a three-year contract extension with Hull City on Thursday. His contract will run until the end of the 2028/29 season, and it includes an option to extend it for a further campaign.
Analysis: McBurnie was a key player for the Tigers in the 2025/26 campaign, and he is also expected to be a prominent name on offense in the club's return to the Premier League. McBurnie has featured 43 times since signing from Las Palmas last summer, scoring 19 goals and recording eight assists. Analysis: McBurnie didn't register a shot but nearly created the breakthrough in the 73rd minute, with his lone key pass releasing Liam Millar behind the defense before the winger fired narrowly wide. The striker's ability to hold up possession and bring teammates into play gives Hull another dimension even when he isn't getting shooting opportunities himself.
