Inks contract extension
Burger signed a contract extension with Hoffenheim, according to the club. Sporting director Andreas Schicker said "The extension is an impressive signal of continuity and of our growing attractiveness for ambitious players."
Analysis: Burger made 30 Bundesliga appearances last season, contributing four goals and eight assists, along with two DFB Pokal appearances with a goal and an assist, after joining from Stoke City in the summer of 2025 and immediately becoming a key performer. The Dutch midfielder came through Feyenoord's academy before spells at Basel and Stoke City, and has earned 60 caps across the Netherlands' youth national teams.
Starting in midfield
Burger (undisclosed) is in the starting XI for Saturday's clash against Hamburger.
Analysis: Burger passed the testing that had been set to determine his availability after an early exit in the last match left him questionable heading into the weekend, with the coaching staff clearing him to retain his starting role despite the lingering concerns. His ability to come through the fitness check in time is a welcome development for a coaching staff that had been bracing for a potentially rough loss in their starting lineup.
Late call for Saturday
Burger (undisclosed) is in question for Saturday's match against Hamburger, according to manager Christian Ilzer. "There are still question marks with Wouter."
Analysis: Burger is still worried about some injuries after an early exit in the last match and is questionable for Saturday, needing to test himself before. This would be a rough loss for the club, as he is a starter, although his more defensive role has killed his goal contribution count as of late. If he is to miss out, Grischa Promel and Alexander Prass are possible replacements.
