Could return to starting XI
Sambi Lokonga (back) returned to Hamburg's team training Wednesday after recently dealing with back problems, according to the Hamburger Abendblatt.
Analysis: Sambi Lokonga missed the 5-0 defeat to Mainz due to the back issue after being limited to individual work at the start of the week. His return to team training significantly improves his chances of featuring against RB Leipzig on Sunday, with the 26-year-old expected to return directly to the starting XI in central midfield if he continues to progress without a setback.
Could return against Leipzig
Lokonga (back) could return against Leipzig after missing Sunday's 5-0 defeat to Mainz due to back pain suffered in the final training session, according to coach Merlin Polzin. "Sambi made a wrong movement in the final training session and felt it in his back, so he wasn't able to play. I expect that we'll have resolved the issue by the start of the week."
Analysis: Lokonga's absence appears likely to be brief, with manager Merlin Polzin expecting the midfielder to resume training early in the week and potentially be available against Leipzig. The back issue resulted from an awkward movement rather than a more significant injury, which is encouraging for his chances of a quick return. Lokonga started Hamburg's Bundesliga opener and should compete to regain his place in central midfield once cleared.
