Back with Saints after loan
Sugawara has returned to Southampton after spending the 2025/26 season on loan at Werder Bremen.
Analysis: Sugawara started in 29 of his 31 appearances with Bremen in the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign, delivering six assists from his right wing-back role, and also featured in each of Japan's four matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Given that Southampton will play in the Championship in 2026/27, don't be surprised if Sugawara is loaned out once again to play in a top-flight league.
