Analysis: Ryan was able to make seven saves in Levante's scoreless draw, and the goalkeeper was clearly key to securing a point for his side. Ryan will likely face plenty of shots against a Betis side which is off to a slow start in 2026-27 but scored 59 goals in LaLiga in last year's campaign.
Allows three goals
Ryan had three saves and allowed three goals in Sunday's 3-0 loss against Espanyol.
Analysis: Ryan was in for a rough start to the season Sunday, as the goalie would be beaten three times while making three saves. This comes after he only allowed one goal against Espanyol all of last season, not a good sign for the Levante defense to open the campaign. He will prepare to face Osasuna next on Monday, a decent chance to have a bounce-back match.
Back with club after World Cup
Ryan has returned to training with Levante following his World Cup campaign with Australia, the club posted.
Analysis: Ryan returned from the World Cup with Australia, where he was not the starting goalkeeper and made only a brief appearance against Egypt before the penalty shootout defeat that ended the Socceroos' run. He now returns to Levante, where he is expected to remain first choice after signing for another season following an impressive campaign last year in which he helped the club survive relegation, keeping nine clean sheets and making 125 saves while conceding 56 goals across 36 appearances.
Returns to Levante
Ryan signed with Levante for the 2026-27 season after both sides reached a new agreement, the club announced.
Analysis: Ryan joined Levante last summer and made 36 league appearances in goal. He came through the Blacktown City and Central Coast Mariners academies before moving to Club Brugge in 2013, and had his first spell in Spain at Valencia in 2015. His career has since spanned Genk, Brighton, Arsenal, Real Sociedad, Copenhagen, AZ Alkmaar, Roma and Lens. The goalkeeper has captained Australia and represented the country at four World Cups, including this summer's tournament. Ryan is expected to remain Levante's starting goalkeeper for the upcoming campaign.
Departs Levante
Ryan will leave Levante when his contract expires, the club announced.
Analysis: Ryan joined ahead of the 2025/26 season following spells at Roma and Lens, making 36 official appearances and bringing his experience and leadership to the role of starting goalkeeper as the club returned to La Liga. Ryan, who has captained Australia and represented his country at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cups, departs with Levante's gratitude for his professionalism throughout the campaign.

Analysis: Ryan remains Australia's clear No. 1 and one of the most experienced goalkeepers in international football heading into the World Cup. The veteran captain has spent well over a decade competing at a high level in Europe and is coming off a busy campaign with Levante, averaging 3.5 saves and 1.6 goals conceded per game in La Liga play. The Australian national team could spend stretches of matches defending against tough opposition, which provides Ryan with ample opportunities to record saves. His extensive tournament experience should also prove valuable and may be a differential factor for the Socceroos to advance beyond the group stage. Still, he's not guaranteed clean sheets, with most of his upside coming from his shot-stopping capacity.

In the end it was a nice showing that earned him the clean sheet, but only a draw because the team in front of him failed to get much of anything going on the attack.

Analysis: Ryan didn't make any saves but he also didn't concede any goals in an important match for Levante to try to escape the relegation zone. Espanyol could prove to be a trickier matchup for Ryan as the side has scored 37 times in 32 league games but this performance will give him some confidence.
