Clinton Mata
LYO
Loses role this season
Mata has appeared in just one of Lyon's first five Ligue 1 matches, playing the full 90 minutes in the season opener against Toulouse as he lost his starter role in central defense.
Analysis: Mata has remained on the bench for the following four league games after the opener, leaving him with 90 Ligue 1 minutes with six clearances and one tackle. He did play a full match in Lyon's Sept. 16 Europa League meeting with Anderlecht but remains deep in the hierarchy of the center-backs with Moussa Niakhate and Felix Bacher the preferred starting pair.
Captains team to victory
Mata recorded one tackle (one won), six clearances and one interception in Saturday's 2-0 win over Toulouse.
Analysis: Mata held possession well with 83 passes and also won all his ground duels. He started 32 games last campaign and played his part in 11 clean sheets and he has already started the new campaign on a good note with a clean sheet in the opening game.
