Released to explore future
Dompe has been released by Hamburger SV to explore his options for a fresh start, according to the club. Sporting director Claus Costa said "Jean-Luc has no perspective left in our planning for the upcoming season."
Analysis: Dompe was included in the squad for the recent friendly against Everton but did not see any minutes, having also gone unused in the earlier friendly against Heidenheim, with only a brief late appearance against Rapid Wien since preseason began. He has made 87 competitive appearances for Hamburger in the second division since joining in 2022, contributing 15 goals and 32 assists, along with 20 Bundesliga appearances and three goals since the club's return to the top flight, and now looks set to find a new club as his time in Hamburg comes to an end.
Option for Saturday
Dompe (foot) returned to full training and is an option for Saturday's clash against Frankfurt, according to the coach Merlin Polzin. "Dompe trained fully today and is an option for the squad."
Analysis: Dompe appears to have shaken off the foot issue that caused him to miss the last four matches. The forward has started just one of his last five appearances, making a bench role the most likely scenario if he is included in Saturday's matchday squad.
