Returns with substitution goal

Trezeguet scored one goal across 14 minutes during Egypt's 3-1 win Sunday against New Zealand.

Analysis: For the World Cup, its 2026 edition is Trezeguet's second. During 2018, he logged three starts. Fast-forward to 2026, Trezeguet is both not a prospect and the Egyptians' second-oldest forward, behind captain Mohamed Salah. With fellow striker Omar Marmoush, Emam Ashour and Mostafa Ziko also valued parts of Egypt's updated attack, they indicate why Trezeguet did not play June 15 against Belgium. Instead, his return appearance was this Sunday, and he replaced Marmoush during the game's 76th minute. In multiple ways, the substitution benefited Trezeguet six minutes later, when a left-side corner arose without Marmoush. Instead, Salah attempted Egypt's outswinging corner, and Trezeguet headed in the ensuing cross for his first goal of an international tournament. Even though the Egyptians' four-man attack is set, they still need a quality backup, and it looks like he can be just that.

Explosive wide threat

Trezeguet has made Egypt's World Cup squad and figures to see meaningful playing time on the left flank.

Analysis: Trezeguet will bounce back to the biggest international stage after starting all three group games at Russia 2018. Additionally, he has totaled 95 matches played for Egypt throughout his career, notching 23 goals in that period. He was among Egypt's top offensive contributors in World Cup qualifying, ranking only behind Mohamed Salah in terms of both goals and assists. At the club level, Trezeguet closed the CAF Champions League as the tournament's top scorer with six goals across nine appearances for Al Ahly. His profile as a two-footed winger who likes to cut inside and shoot gives him multiple routes to offensive output. However, his playing time has gradually decreased since AFCON 2025, and with Salah and Omar Marmoush firmly ahead of him in the pecking order, his fantasy value is heavily tied to his ability to lock down the remaining spot in the front line.
