Lewis Ferguson
Hard-working display versus Cagliari
Ferguson had two crosses (zero accurate), five clearances and two corners and won two of three tackles in Saturday's 2-0 win over Cagliari.
Analysis: Ferguson had one of his busiest performances in the defensive phase in this one, posting a new season high in clearances while matching the one in tackles. He has registered at least one clearance in six straight tilts, amassing 15 and adding three chances created, six crosses (one accurate) and 15 tackles (eight won) over that span.
Sticks to defending against Torino
Ferguson recorded two tackles (one won), three clearances and one interception and drew two fouls in Saturday's 1-1 draw versus Torino.
Analysis: Ferguson had different duties than in the previous rounds as the new manager tweaked the scheme, and he had less room to attack. It's not yet clear whether the choice is permanent. He has notched multiple tackles in every game so far, totaling 13 (seven won) and posting five key passes, four crosses (two accurate) and four interceptions over that span. Additionally, this was his third game in a row with at least one clearance (seven total).
Six corners in 3-0 loss
Ferguson recorded two shots (one on goal), six crosses (one accurate) and six corners in Wednesday's 3-0 defeat to Brazil.
Analysis: Ferguson took six corners and was able to complete one of these six crosses as Scotland lost 3-0 to Brazil. Scotland will hope that they have done enough to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams. The midfielder won two of his four tackles and also made two clearances. He conceded two fouls in the match but has finished the group stage without a yellow card despite making five fouls. One of his corners ended in a great header that required a strong save from Alisson.
Strong defensively vs Morocco
Ferguson registered two crosses (zero accurate) and one corner in Friday's 1-0 defeat to Morocco.
Analysis: Ferguson started his second consecutive match in midfield for Scotland, once again putting in a strong 90 minutes in the middle of the pitch. It was a strong performance on the defensive end as he won 10 duels and four tackles, in addition to making two interceptions and one clearance. Morocco only managed two shots on target throughout the match, and Ferguson's presence in midfield was a big reason why. He also took two free kicks and one corner on the attack and while those are great opportunities for assists, he was a bit off in the area. He took the final corner of the match in the 96th minute, but it was a poor effort as it didn't give his teammates a chance to find the end of it. Next up is the final group stage match versus Brazil, a match where Ferguson will need to be at his best on both ends of the pitch in order to get a positive result for his nation.
Corner taker in 1-0 win
Ferguson had one cross (zero accurate) and one corner in Saturday's 1-0 victory against Haiti.
Analysis: Ferguson took one of the three corners that Scotland had as they beat Haiti 1-0 in their World Cup opener. The midfielder was quiet for the rest of the game but did win his only tackle, made two interceptions and a clearance. The real point of difference for the midfielder was that he drew six fouls, only conceding one.
Swings in plenty of crosses versus Roma
Ferguson won one of two tackles and registered seven crosses (zero accurate) and four corners in Saturday's 2-0 defeat against Roma.
Analysis: Ferguson posted a new season high in crosses and corners, but all his deliveries were imprecise. He has tallied one key pass, nine crosses (one accurate) and five corners in his last five displays (three starts). Instead, he halted a three-game streak with at least one shot in this one.
