Converts penalty to salvage draw
Giroud scored one goal to go with two shots (two on goal) in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Brest.
Analysis: Giroud scored once from two shots, putting both on target, across the full 90 minutes in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Brest. He nearly scored in the ninth minute when a defender cleared his header following Dilane Bakwa's cross, before eventually equalizing from the penalty spot in the 64th minute after Ethan Mbappe was fouled inside the area. Giroud's powerful penalty struck the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line, securing a point for Lille after the hosts had trailed since the opening six minutes. Giroud has now two goals and two assists in seven Ligue 1 appearances this season.
Managing multiple physical issues
Giroud revealed that he continues to manage several physical issues, notably in his ankles, lower back and knee, and recently underwent injections to help reduce inflammation and aid his recovery, according to L'Equipe, per Le Petit Lillois.
Analysis: Giroud continues to manage the physical demands of regular competition at 40, with his right ankle in particular requiring treatment because of longstanding ligament damage. Despite those issues, the striker has remained productive with one goal and two assists across five Ligue 1 appearances this season. Giroud faces competition for minutes up front from the in-form Ayase Ueda, which could allow Lille to manage the veteran's workload when necessary.
