Doubtful to return before break
Frimpong (hamstring) is unlikely to return before the upcoming international break after suffering a new muscle injury during Saturday's 2-1 victory over Brentford, according to coach Andoni Iraola. "Frimpong is obviously a new muscle injury and it happened, I think, in the second or third minute he was playing, difficult to predict and we will have to wait until he recovers. But it's going to be difficult, I think, before the [November international] break. We will try but it's going to be difficult to have him."
Analysis: Frimpong sustained the injury shortly after entering at halftime against Brentford, lasting just six minutes before being forced off with muscular discomfort. The Dutch defender is dealing with a new injury that could keep him sidelined through the upcoming international break, although Liverpool have not established a definitive return date. Victor Munoz filled in at right-back following Frimpong's withdrawal and could remain an alternative alongside Joe Gomez and Ronald Araujo while the Dutchman recovers.
Set to miss some time
Frimpong is expected to miss some time after suffering a hamstring injury shortly after coming on at halftime of Saturday's 2-1 win at Brentford, according to head coach Andoni Iraola, per Ian Doyle. The coach said after the game, per NBC Sports. "He finished cramping the other day in the Champions League so we knew he wouldn't start the game. The way the game has gone, playing against 10 at half time, I thought he was going to give us more than Ronald going forward. That was the reason I put him in. But he felt something straight away in the muscle and we had to continue the game with Victor and I think he's done a very good job as a right back."
Analysis: Frimpong started on the bench at Brentford after finishing Wednesday's Champions League win at LASK with cramp, and he replaced Ronald Araujo at halftime to add attacking threat against 10 men. He felt a muscle problem almost immediately and lasted six minutes, with Andoni Iraola expecting Liverpool to be without him for some time. Victor Munoz moved to right-back after Frimpong went off and earned praise from Andoni Iraola
