Remi Matthews

Stays third-choice keeper option

Matthews has been an unused substitute in all five of Crystal Palace's Premier League matches to open 2026/27, keeping his role as the third goalkeeper.

Analysis: Matthews remains buried on the goalkeeping depth chart behind Walter Benitez and Dean Henderson, with the new deal he signed in the summer 2025 reflecting organizational depth rather than an expanded role. He has zero minutes across Palace's first five league matches, mirroring the marginal role he played throughout last season. Benitez has started the last three games due to Henderson's foot injury but the Englishman remains the number one keeper under new coach Pierre Sage.
