Rongier (nose) played as a starter in the weekend's practice contest against Brentford.
Analysis: Rongier bounced back after a few weeks on the sidelines following nose surgery in July. He took Mahdi Camara's place in central midfield for the unofficial matchup. While he's usually more of a defensive option, Rongier should be able to produce via passes and ball recovery numbers assuming he'll retain meaningful time on the pitch going forward. He's also an occasional attacking threat, having scored twice and provided five assists over 31 Ligue 1 matches played last season.
Undergoes surgery on nose
Rongier underwent surgery on his broken nose, suffered during training on July 21, the club announced.
Analysis: Rongier will remain with the group through the end of the training camp in Dinard as he begins a period of recovery. No specific timeline for his return has been disclosed at this stage. The captain's presence with the squad despite the procedure suggests the issue is not expected to require an extended absence. Scores late winner
Rongier scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Sunday's 2-1 win over Nantes. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 88th minute.
Analysis: Rongier scored the winning goal as Rennes beat Nantes 2-1. He returned to the team having missed the last match and scored his second of the season. He also has provided five assists three of which have been in the last six matches he has played in.
