Attempts shot and 13 crosses

Lee logged one shot (zero on goal), 13 crosses (one accurate) and five corners during the Korea Republic's 1-0 loss Wednesday against South Africa.

Analysis: For each of Lee's group-stage appearances, he has attempted a shot, with his latest effort just wide. Apart from that, against South Africa, all his other contributions were from the flanks. Because captain Son Heung-Min did not play the game's first half, Lee temporarily attempted all of Korea's corners, which is how his tally significantly increased to nine. With the Korean offense both lacking other playmakers and unable to penetrate RSA's compact defense, they relied on him crossing, even if he was almost perfectly inaccurate Wednesday. For group-stage games, Lee logged one assist on 19 crosses, his accuracy rate updated to 21.1 percent and down 28.9 points from before the Koreans' recent loss. If they advance, he will be their focal point, knowing that none of his veteran teammates have risen to the occasion.

Bad start, promising end from flank

Lee logged two shots (zero on goal), three crosses (three accurate) and two corners during South Korea's 1-0 loss Thursday at Mexico. In the fourth minute, he received a yellow card.

Analysis: Unfortunately for Lee, his latest appearance included a horrible start. He stomped on Luis Romo's right foot, and the former's dismal offense defined his first half. Lee found his footing during the second half, potentially with help from a minor change South Korea made not involving him. Even though Heung-Min Son usually attempts Korea's left-side corners, he could not replicate the role against Mexico after being subbed off early. Lee replaced Son, and despite the former's outswinging corners, he separately connected with defender Lee Han-Beom and striker Cho Gue-Sung. In between both corners, the attacking Lee logged an accurate cross to Cho, whose deflected header is how the former recorded his second corner. Despite the loss, his final effort features a promising development going into Korea's group-stage finale Wednesday against South Africa.
