Assists in Wednesday's loss
Martinez assisted once to go with one chance created in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to D.C. United.
Analysis: Martinez recorded his first goal contribution since joining Columbus, assisting Santiago Rodriguez's goal in the 49th minute Wednesday. It was the only chance he created in the match and he did not record a single shot. He was replaced in the 60th minute for Gonzalo Tapia.
Four shots in win
Martinez registered four shots (two on goal) in Saturday's 3-0 victory against Colorado Rapids.
Analysis: Martinez made his second straight start Saturday and put together his best performance since joining Columbus. After recording just one off-target shot through his first four appearances, he had four shots, with two on target, in Saturday's win. While he still didn't find the goal, it was the first time he seemed to settle in to his new club. He'll need to start finding his form of the past soon if he wants to keep his spot in the starting XI and help his team push for a playoff spot.
Signs with Columbus Crew
Martinez signed with Columbus as a free agent, guaranteed through the 2026 season with a club option through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, the club announced.
Analysis: Martinez has scored 130 goals across 214 MLS appearances over nine seasons, the sixth-most in league history, including a league-leading 31 goals during his 2018 MVP season with Atlanta United, when he also won MLS Cup MVP. He most recently scored one goal in nine matches with Club Tijuana this year, following a 2025 season with San Jose in which he posted 14 goals and three assists across 31 appearances. Martinez is expected to add experience and proven scoring ability to Columbus' attack as he begins this next chapter of his career.
