Undergoes treatment on day off
Fernandes (undisclosed) reported to Manchester United's Carrington training ground Monday to receive treatment for an unspecified physical issue despite the rest of the squad being given the day off, according to Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun.
Analysis: Fernandes has raised fresh concerns about his fitness after reporting for treatment at Carrington while his teammates were enjoying a scheduled day off. The Portuguese midfielder had been dealing with an injury last month, although coach Michael Carrick indicated earlier in October that he had fully recovered. Fernandes was subsequently dropped to the bench for Sunday's Premier League encounter against Bournemouth, with Carrick insisting that the decision was purely tactical rather than injury-related. However, the midfielder did not begin warming up until the 58th minute, and his presence at the training ground Monday suggests he may still be managing some physical discomfort. Fernandes has recorded three goals, one assist and 16 chances created across seven Premier League appearances this season. It remains unclear whether his latest treatment is precautionary or related to a new setback, leaving his fitness worth monitoring ahead of Saturday's clash against Chelsea.
Dropped to bench against Bournemouth
Fernandes has been left out of Manchester United's starting lineup for Sunday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth, marking his first league appearance on the bench this season following Wednesday's 4-1 defeat to Como.
Analysis: Fernandes has been dropped to the bench for the first time in the Premier League this season as Manchester United look to end a seven-match winless streak. The Portuguese midfielder publicly questioned the team's tactical approach following Wednesday's heavy defeat to Como, although it remains unclear whether those comments influenced his omission. Fernandes has recorded three goals, one assist and 16 chances created across seven Premier League appearances this season, establishing himself as a key contributor despite United's struggles. The captain could still feature as a substitute against Bournemouth, but his exclusion from the starting XI represents a significant change in his usually secure role under coach Michael Carrick.
