Set for potential season debut
Vargas (knee) will be included in Sevilla's squad for Monday's La Liga clash against Levante but is not fit enough to start and could make his season debut off the bench, according to coach Luis Garcia. "He's not 100% fit because he's been out of action for a while, but I've spoken to him and, although he's not ready to start, depending on how the match goes, he might come on."
Analysis: Vargas is finally nearing his first competitive appearance of the 2026/27 season after recovering from a knee injury and returning to team training. The Swiss winger has yet to feature this campaign due to recurring fitness issues, and his workload will need to be carefully managed following his lengthy absence. Although he is not ready to start against Levante, he could receive limited minutes off the bench as he gradually rebuilds match fitness. Vargas contributed three goals and six assists across 24 La Liga appearances, including 20 starts, last season, and his return should eventually provide Sevilla with additional creativity and set-piece quality in attack.
Not in squad for friendly
Vargas has recovered from his knee injury but wasn't included in the squad to face Aston Villa in the Antonio Puerta Trophy on Friday.
Analysis: Sevilla are probably taking a cautious approach with Vargas, who has yet to play for the club this season. The Swiss international is on track to be an option for the resumption of LaLiga when Sevilla take on Levante on Monday, Oct. 12.
