Wins 2026 Yashin Trophy
Simon was awarded the 2026 Yashin Trophy during Monday's Ballon d'Or ceremony in London, recognizing him as the world's best goalkeeper for the 2025/26 season after helping Spain win the 2026 World Cup.
Analysis: Simon has further cemented his reputation as one of the world's elite goalkeepers after claiming the 2026 Yashin Trophy, following an outstanding year highlighted by Spain's World Cup triumph. The Athletic Club shot-stopper played a pivotal role in his country's success, recording an impressive seven clean sheets across eight matches during the tournament. He finished ahead of Arsenal's David Raya in the voting, succeeding Gianluigi Donnarumma and going one better than his runner-up finish in 2024, when Spain won the European Championship. The 29-year-old has also carried his consistency into the 2026/27 campaign, already registering 26 saves and six clean sheets across 10 La Liga appearances. His impressive performances for both club and country continue to reinforce his standing among the world's top goalkeepers.
Gets a clean sheet
Simon had one save and secured a clean sheet in Sunday's 4-0 win versus Getafe.
Analysis: It's a bit generous to say Simon was stellar in this game as he only had to make one save but a clean sheet is a clean sheet. He'll try to do his part to slow down a Real Sociedad side that has scored 19 goals across 10 LaLiga games.
