Diverse stat line Saturday
Matsima had one cross (zero accurate) and one chance created in Saturday's 1-1 draw versus Union Berlin.
Analysis: Matsima logged the full 90 minutes once more, which makes it seven complete matches out of seven in the Bundesliga this season. Additionally, he continued to chip in with passing and defensive numbers in the draw. His three clearances fell short of his average of 7.3 per game, a sign that Union Berlin's attack didn't put him under as much pressure as usual. His team has most often been without the ball and has struggled to keep clean sheets, so his consistent presence on the pitch and that clearance production remain his biggest strengths.
Makes starting XI
Matsima (groin) is in the starting lineup for Saturday's friendly against Sassuolo, according to the club.
Analysis: Matsima had recently returned to the matchday squad as a bench option following an adductor injury suffered in late July, and his move into the starting XI now marks a significant step forward in his recovery. Getting valuable minutes here is important for his push to be ready for the DFB Pokal opener against Cottbus on August 22 and the Bundesliga opener against Schalke 04 on August 30.
