Analysis: Gallardo enjoyed plenty of chances to push forward against an opposition that was reduced to 10 men early in the second half Sunday. The 13 crosses were the second-highest figure on the squad and raised his 2026 World Cup total to 16. He was originally expected to play a more offensive role in all games, so it was rather disappointing that he failed to score or assist throughout the international event. Still, he retained an edge over Mateo Chavez and strengthened his status a regular member of a back line that secured four clean sheets in five games.

Analysis: Gallardo had few opportunities to impress offensively as he faced a tough matchup against John Yeboah on the flank during Tuesday's game. He has also recorded 90 minutes in each of the three matches he has played from kickoff, with Mexico keeping a clean sheet in each of those contests. He'll look to remain active at left-back in the upcoming round of 16.

Analysis: Gallardo was once again active in his own half of the pitch as Mexico left their second opponent scoreless in the early stages of the competition. In addition to his defensive output, he tallied a couple of dribbles and won seven of his 10 duels throughout the match. The five clearances added to his total of eight in 180 minutes played so far. If he avoids rotation in the final group-stage fixture against Czechia, he could remain a solid two-way asset thanks to his ability to move up and down the left flank.

Analysis: Gallardo led the winning side with three interceptions while tying for the most clearances on the squad during the 2026 World Cup opening match. Despite those stats, he didn't have a lot of work on his own half of the pitch and managed to support the attack a few times, yet his efforts didn't lead to an important chance. He'll likely retain the left-back position in future contests, offering two-way potential on the left flank.
Expected to feature for Mexico
Gallardo will aim to play a meaningful role on the left side of Mexico's defense following his inclusion in the World Cup squad.
Analysis: Gallardo remains Mexico's unquestioned starter on the left side of a back four, a role that allows him to push forward consistently and contribute in the attacking third. The veteran defender recorded five goals and five assists in Liga MX over the past year, and he found the net once for El Tri in a friendly match against Iceland. Defensively, his production could resemble what he showed during the last CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he averaged 4.0 balls recovered, 2.0 clearances and 1.4 tackles per game.
Called up for World Cup
Gallardo has been confirmed as part of the Mexican World Cup roster, making him ineligible for upcoming league action while he serves international duty.
Analysis: Gallardo finished the Clausura season with one goal and four assists in addition to 19 shots, 26 crosses, 13 chances created, 27 tackles and 22 clearances across 986 minutes of play, helping his team advance to the knockout rounds. The left-back also stood out in CONCACAF Champions Cup action, where he tallied three goals and one assist in four starts. He now looks set to be an undisputed member of Mexico's lineup, offering considerable all-around value.
Assists twice off bench
Gallardo made two assists and had three off-target shots after coming off the bench during Saturday's 4-1 win over Leon.
Analysis: Gallardo was brought as part of a double halftime substitution in his return from suspension and helped changing the course of the game for Toluca as he assisted two of the three goals they scored in the second frame. That's now five goals and five assists over 33 league appearances for the veteran full-back, who remains one of Liga MX's best fantasy picks at his position.
Suspended for Mazatlan trip
Gallardo will miss the upcoming visit to Mazatlan due to his yellow card accumulation in the first 15 weeks of the Liga MX tournament, according to the FMF disciplinary report.
Analysis: Gallardo is unlikely to see much more action in the Clausura campaign given that he'll serve his ban in the penultimate regular-season fixture and will be available only for the weekend meeting with Leon before joining the Mexican national team's training camp. This loss leaves an important void on the left flank of Diablos' defense, with the key player recording 16 shots, 25 crosses, 26 tackles, 20 clearances, one goal and two assists over 12 league games this year. Mauricio Isais may see his playing time increased while Gallardo is absent.
