Tallies four saves against France
Gill made four saves and allowed one goal in Saturday's 1-0 loss versus France.
Analysis: Gill was excellent between the posts once again as he was beaten only by Kylian Mbappe's spot kick, after which he made an impressive double save to deny the French star a brace. It was the end of the Paraguayan national team's World Cup journey, where the keeper emerged as one of the squad's brightest players. After the disastrous debut against the United States, he bounced back and conceded only two goals over the last four matches while finishing with an average of 4.6 saves per game.
Stands out in win over Germany
Gill recorded six saves and allowed one goal in Monday's 1-1 (5-4) penalty shootout victory against Germany.
Analysis: Gill was under intense fire but responded well for the most part and conceded only on a surgical header by Kai Havertz. He set a new tournament high in saves and stepped up during the shoot-out, rejecting two PKs. He has kept two clean sheets, surrendered five goals, four of which in the same tilt, and made 19 saves so far. Paraguay advanced and will face either France or Sweden on Saturday.
Keeps clean sheet
Gill recorded five saves and secured a clean sheet in Thursday's 0-0 draw versus Australia.
Analysis: Gill came up with a clean sheet in Thursday's 0-0 World Cup draw against Australia, anchoring a disciplined Paraguay defense that limited the Socceroos to very few quality looks in a tense Group D finale in San Francisco. He handled the occasional spell of Australian pressure with confidence but was rarely forced into difficult saves, finishing the night with five stops. While Australia booked its place in the knockout rounds as the group runner-up, Paraguay's hopes of advancing as one of the best third-place teams remain on a knife's edge due to an inferior goal difference.
Five saves in win
Gill registered five saves and secured a clean sheet in Friday's 1-0 victory against Turkey.
Analysis: Gill had himself a great match, saving every shot he faced in a strong bounce-back performance from his previous outing against the United States. Paraguay's defense still left him with plenty to handle, especially after the side was reduced to 10 men for much of the match. Facing 2.17 expected goals, Gill did well to compensate for the defensive mistakes in front of him and preserve the clean sheet. The amount of pressure he faced does raise questions about the workload he could continue to see going forward. His next match will be against Australia, who enter as the favorite, although it should still be a competitive matchup and another opportunity for Gill to build on this performance.
Three saves in 4-1 drubbing
Gil made three saves in Friday's 4-1 loss to the United States.
Analysis: Gill showed composure and some quality distribution, but he was largely left exposed by Paraguay's defensive breakdowns. While conceding four goals is never ideal, Paraguay's defense did little to help the 26-year-old goalkeeper. The match was a difficult World Cup debut against a U.S. side that produced one of its strongest tournament performances in decades. Up next, Paraguay faces another still challenge against Turkiye in San Francisco on Friday, June 19.
