Assist during 3-1 win
Hany logged one assist on four crosses (two accurate) and two chances created during Egypt's 3-1 win Sunday against New Zealand.
Analysis: Hany's accurate crosses indicated the future for Egypt against New Zealand. Down 1-0 before the second half, he kickstarted his well with their first cross less than two minutes in. It was not as effective as Hany's second, considering his subsequent effort connected with goalscorer Mostafa Ziko. For the World Cup, Hany's assist is his first, logged on both five crosses and two chances created. Defensively, only he and Yasser Ibrahim recorded more than five clearances, which were needed against an NZL team surprisingly active despite being Group G's least proven team on paper.
Own goal ruins great defensive work
Mohamed Hany registered an own goal, two shots (zero on goal) and one cross (zero accurate) in Monday's 1-1 draw versus Belgium.
Analysis: Hany stood up to the challenge of facing Jeremy Doku, one of the world's most dangerous wingers, and dealt with Leonardo Trossard well too during the periods when the two rotated. He won five of his six tackles and contributed one interception, two clearances, two shots and one cross in a well-rounded display. The only blot on his evening was an unfortunate own goal, when a quick cross into the area touched off him as he tracked Romelu Lukaku with little he could have done to prevent it.
