10 minutes in World Cup exit
Marmoush recorded 10 minutes of play in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Argentina.
Analysis: Marmoush was dropped to the bench for Egypt as they faced Argentina, leading the forward to only 10 minutes of play at the end of the match. That said, he ended a rough World Cup campaign, as he would not earn a goal despite three starts, finishing a rough year between his club and international play. He would still record 11 shots during the tournament in his 326 minutes of play, although only one was on target.
Expected to start on bench
Marmoush is expected to be left out of Egypt's starting lineup for Tuesday's clash against Argentina, according to journalist Ahmed Abdul Baset.
Analysis: Marmoush has struggled to make an impact at the World Cup, failing to score or find an assist through four appearances and managing just one shot on target from 11 attempts overall, including a missed one on one chance in the penalty shootout win over Australia. His underwhelming form appears to have cost him his starting spot as Egypt shifts its approach ahead of a difficult matchup with Argentina. If he does not feature from the opening whistle, expect Marmoush to be introduced later as a substitute option off the bench.
Misses big chance vs. Socceroos
Marmoush generated two shots (zero on goal), two crosses (zero accurate) and two corners in Friday's 1-1 (5-3) penalty shootout victory over Australia.
Analysis: Marmoush could've allowed Egypt the extra time and shootout had he scored a one-on-one early in the second half. The Manchester City striker continues to be the main reference upfront for the Pharaohs, but his performances have been average at best. Through four World Cup appearances, Marmoush has yet to score and has tallied 11 shots, though just one of those has gone on target.
Lively off bench
Marmoush registered one shot (zero on goal) and one cross (zero accurate) in Friday's 1-1 draw against Iran.
Analysis: Marmoush was surprisingly dropped from the starting lineup but came on at half time and picked up where he left off, causing problems and drawing fouls throughout his time on the pitch. The story of his tournament continues however as his efforts have yet to produce a goal or an assist, with one shot that failed to test the keeper and two crosses reflecting a night where the work rate was there but the end product was not. He is expected to return to the starting XI for the round of 32 against Australia, where getting off the mark will be the target against a side that kept two clean sheets across the group stage.
Shots still not converting
Marmoush logged three shots (one on goal) during Egypt's 3-1 win Sunday against New Zealand.
Analysis: Again for the World Cup, Marmoush was positioned in front of three attacking midfielders, their trio including Emam Ashour, Mohamed Salah and Mostafa Ziko. All three have scored this WC, meaning the Egyptians' primary striker is their only non-scoring attacker thus far, at least right now. For the World Cup, his best shot was updated with a finesse effort nicely stopped by goalkeeper Maxime Teremoana Crocombe. Because of Marmoush's proven pedigree, he will continually be relied on up front, though Trezeguet may have narrowed the competition with his goal Sunday. The former's two appearances feature eight shots, four averaged per game.
Threatening display without reward
Marmoush registered five shots (zero on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and one corner in Monday's 1-1 draw against Belgium.
Analysis: Marmoush led the line for Egypt and while he found himself isolated at times, he looked dangerous whenever the ball reached him and was his side's most threatening presence throughout. He finished the game with five shots and created one chance, but his decision making let him down at key moments and prevented what could have been a more decisive contribution in front of goal. With New Zealand up next, the group's weakest defensive side on paper, the conditions should be considerably more favorable for him to get back among the goals at a moment when scoring could prove decisive in the race to top the group.
Established attacker for Egypt
Marmoush is set to start in the middle of Egypt's offense and should offer versatility and finishing talent during his first World Cup.
Analysis: Marmoush is arguably the most in-form Egyptian forward prior to the World Cup despite serving as a bench option behind Erling Haaland for Manchester City. The 27-year-old has played 50 international games throughout his career, notching 11 goals over that span. His two goals in six appearances (five starts) at AFCON 2025 demonstrated he can deliver at major tournaments, and his set-piece ability adds another dimension to his output, though he'll compete with Mohamed Salah for corners and free kicks, and should be the second option from the penalty spot behind Salah. His role operating in the shadow of Egypt's captain could work in his favor from a fantasy standpoint if defenders focus their attention on Salah, allowing Marmoush to exploit the spaces that open up and occasionally outscore his more celebrated teammate. The highlight of his last club season came from his five goals and three assists over 1214 minutes across all competitions. He'll look to stay sharp and deliver shooting numbers, especially in the more favorable fixtures of the group stage.
Back-to-back games with goal
Marmoush scored one goal to go with three shots (one on goal) in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Analysis: Marmoush entered the starting XI Wednesday as Erling Haaland was given some rest, producing a strong 79 minutes of play. Despite a few poor attempts, the forward would still earn a goal, finding the net in the 40th minute. The Egyptian now has back-to-back games with a goal, a bright spot after seeing limited time much of the campaign. He now has three goals and three assists in 20 appearances (eight starts).
Finds back of net
Marmoush scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Saturday's 3-0 victory against Brentford. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 95th minute.
Analysis: Marmoush would enter later in the game as a substitute Saturday, a normal role for the forward this campaign, playing 30 minutes. He would earn a rare goal for this season, set up by fellow forward Erling Haaland in the 92nd minute for the final goal of the contest. Marmoush appears to be making some bright spots in a disappointing season time-wise this campaign, as he is up to give goal contributions after netting seven goals last season, possibly hinting at a future move for the Egyptian.
Bags assist
Marmoush assisted once to go with two shots (zero on goal), six crosses (zero accurate) and five corners in Saturday's 1-1 draw versus West Ham United. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 11th minute.
Analysis: Marmoush would find an assist Saturday on the club's only goal of the match, finding Bernardo Silva in the 31st minute. This is his third assist of the season, with one only two league games ago. He has three assists compared to his one goal this season, a rare sight for the forward who is usually a clinical goal scorer.
Four shots, no goal
Marmoush had four shots (one on goal) in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Leeds United.
Analysis: Marmoush would earn four shots Saturday but was unable to bag a goal in consecutive games, only seeing one of his shots hit the target. However, he does have nine shots in the past two gams, showing a decent output. The club may have to turn to him more over the next few games, with Erling Haaland (undisclosed) feared to be missing time, so it does bring solid confidence that he is finding some decent success already.
Earns assist
Marmoush assisted once to go with five shots (two on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and two corners in Saturday's 2-1 win against Newcastle United.
Analysis: Marmoush was handed a starting role Saturday and did not waste his chance, linking up with Nico O'Reilly for a 14th-minute goal. This is his second assist of the season and is now up to three goal contributions in 15 appearances. This is the second straight start for the forward, as he has started to see more time lately, with five starts since Jan. 24, only seeing two before that this campaign.
Scores opener
Marmoush scored one goal to go with two shots (one on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and one chance created in Saturday's 2-0 win against Wolverhampton.
Analysis: Marmoush opened the scoring against Wolverhampton on Saturday, turning in a Matheus Nunes cross with a deft finish in the first half, and could have added to his tally after attempting two shots, creating one key pass and delivering one cross. The forward took advantage of Erling Haaland's fatigue to earn a start and showcased his qualities, even though his role remains primarily that of a substitute amid strong competition in attack.
Available after duty
Marmoush is back available for Tuesday's Champions League clash against Glimt after ending his international duty with Egypt at the AFCON, the club posted.
Analysis: Marmoush is in the squad list for Tuesday's Champions League clash against Glimt after ending his international duty at the AFCON with Egypt. The forward is an option moving forward for the Citizens and is expected to see a decent playing time in upcoming weeks since coach Pep Guardiola said in pressers that Erling Haaland was tired and needed some rest. This will allow Marmoush to see more playing time as the backup of the Norway international.
Serving at AFCON
Marmoush is not available for the time being as he serves with Egypt at AFCON.
Analysis: Marmoush is one of numerous players taking time away from their club to take part in AFCON, set to represent Egypt over the next few weeks. This leaves his return up in the air, as it will depend on their elimination from the competition. Luckily for the club, he is more of a rotational option, only starting in three of his 14 appearances while bagging an assist.
Bags goal in Carabao Cup
Marmoush scored one goal on five shots in Wednesday's 3-1 win over Swansea City.
Analysis: Marmoush would earn his first full-length appearance Wednesday since his return from injury, as the forward would play the 90 after earning the start, helping his team to a win with his 77th-minute goal. He will now focus on earning his starting role back after ending the last campaign in that role and beginning this season with two starts in three appearances, although it is a spot he will have to earn back after the absence. With seven goals in 16 appearances last season, he has enjoyed his time in the league, likely to find a spot on the left side of the attack over Jeremy Doku and Savinho when fit.
Appears from bench
Marmoush appeared for four minutes off the bench in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Villarreal.
Analysis: Marmoush would take the field with his club for the first time since returning form injury, last seeing the field with City before the September international break. He would appear off the bench in a minor spot, only gettign four minutes of action and not recording a single significant stat while on the field. He will now look to earn more time moving forward and add to his goal contribution tally, as he is still wothout a goal despite starting in two of their first three games of the season, likely to compete for time in a starting role with Jeremy Doku, Savinho and Oscar Bobb for a spot in the attack and on the flank now that he is fit.
On bench against Everton
Marmoush (knee) is on the bench for Saturday's clash against Everton.
Analysis: Marmoush is back from his knee injury and takes a spot on the bench for Saturday's match against Everton. He trained with the team on Thursday and is close to full fitness. The Citizens could look to ease him back into action given his expected role in the squad moving forward.
Nearing return
Marmoush (knee) trained on Thursday and is nearing a return, coach Pep Guardiola said in the press conference. "Omar trained yesterday and is much better. He's close to being back."
Analysis: Marmoush is very close from making his comeback from injury after training with the team on Thursday. The Egyptian suffered a knee injury and could make his comeback in Saturday's clash against Everton. This is good news for the Citizens since he should hold a decent role moving forward.
Could return after break
Marmoush (knee) could return after the October international break, manager Pep Guardiola revealed in Tuesday's press conference before facing Monaco in the Champions League. "Hopefully after Brentford we will have many players back - hopefully Omar [Marmoush] will be back."
Analysis: Marmoush suffered an injury with Egypt during the September international break, and while he won't be an option to face Brentford on Sunday, it sounds as if he might be able to return after the break. Marmoush has been limited to three appearances (two starts) in league play this season, tallying five shots (two on target), two chances created and two crosses.
