Remains sidelined

Henderson (wrist) is not yet ready to play, with manager Xabi Alonso revealing Wednesday that "Jordan will take a little bit longer. Let's see. I'm not a doctor and I don't have the data. We need to wait until we know more".

Analysis: Henderson won't feature in the initial few weeks of the season, but his exact recovery timeline remains in doubt, so it's unclear when he'll be able to make his first appearance for Chelsea following his transfer from Brentford. The veteran midfielder got hurt during the World Cup, even though he barely saw action in the international competition and has failed to take part in a club game since May 24. He'll likely serve as a bench asset as soon as he returns, offering backup behind Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

Set to train, timeline uncertain

Henderson (wrist) is expected to begin training with the rest of the players who were involved in the World Cup semifinals, according to coach Xabi Alonso, per Football London. "Yeah, with Jordan, we expect that he can start training with all the rest of the players that were involved in the semis of the World Cup. We have a few of them involved, so we are looking forward to welcome them. And Jordan, we need to assess because of the injury he had, how long it would take to be fit to compete, because he can train, but we need to be aware of the situation."

Analysis: Henderson signed a two year contract with Chelsea this summer after departing Brentford, where he made 34 appearances last season with one goal and three assists in helping the club to a ninth place finish. He made history at the World Cup as the first England men's player to feature at seven major tournaments, and his path to full fitness will need to be monitored given the type of injury he suffered as Chelsea works him into preseason.
