Analysis: Sow was entered into the starting XI Staurday as Switzerland fell to Argentina, only his second start of the World Cup. He would earn a chance created, a shot and two crosses in his 86 minutes of play, not doing much to alter the match. He will go home from the World Cup with no goal contributions while recording two starts in four appearances.
Bench option against Colombia
Sow (undisclosed) is on the bench for Tuesday's World Cup Round of 16 match against Colombia.
Analysis: Sow was considered questionable after being forced to leave training early on Monday, but he recovered sufficiently to be included in Switzerland's matchday squad. The midfielder remains available as a depth option after playing a limited role throughout the tournament, with coach Murat Yakin opting for other choices in the starting lineup. His presence on the bench is nonetheless a positive development for Switzerland, especially after several players dealt with fitness concerns ahead of the knockout clash. Sow could be called upon later in the match to provide energy and experience in midfield.
Questionable to face Colombia
Sow exited training early Monday and is now questionable for Tuesday's match against Colombia, according to manager Murat Yakin, per Lucas Werder of Blick. "The annoyance is, of course, great that they had to interrupt training one day before the game. It would be a big loss if they couldn't stand on the court tomorrow. We will look closely today and tomorrow to see if they can still be there."
Analysis: Sow is one of the numerous players heading into Tuesday's round of 16 match questionable, as the midfielder was forced off the training pitch early Monday. He has been more of a depth option so far this World Cup, but with Ruben Vargas (undisclosed), Johan Manzambi (undisclosed) and Michel Aebischer (undisclosed) all questionable, he may be needed in a bigger role. That said, he remains a late call for the contest, likely to serve on the bench if everyone is fit, but possibly starting if a few miss out.
Sudued showing against Canada
Sow had one tackle (one won), one clearance and one interception in Wednesday's 2-1 win against Canada.
Analysis: Sow was occasionally spry on the wing, but his level of activity didn't translate to the stat sheet, as he only collected some defensive stats before being replaced by Michel Aebischer with 16 minutes to go. Dan Ndoye was rested in this one after starting at the position in the previous two tilts. Sowe had done little in his lone previous appearance off the bench.
Generates assist
Sow assisted once to go with two shots (zero on goal) and three chances created in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over Villarreal.
Analysis: Sow created three chances and was rewarded with an assist in Sevilla's comeback win on Wednesday. The midfielder will have to keep creating opportunities if he wants to log an assist or two against Real Madrid, one of La Liga's top defensive side. Los Blancos have only conceded 33 goals in 36 La Liga games.
Assists equalizer on Saturday
Sow assisted once to go with zero corners and one chance created in Saturday's 2-1 win over Espanyol. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 73rd minute.
Analysis: Sow assisted Andres Castrin's equalizer in the 82nd minute. He completed 18 passes and made two tackles. Sow has now assisted in back-to-back games and has accumulated eight goal contributions this campaign.
No longer banned
Sow is eligible once again after serving suspension Monday against Real Sociedad.
Analysis: Sow will look to return for the remaining games of the season after producing his second assist of the season in his last league appearance. The midfielder, who has also scored five goals in the current campaign, could be used in a central spot at the expense of either Nemanja Gudelj or Lucien Agoume.
Set for suspension
Sow will serve a one-match ban due to an accumulation of five yellow cards in La Liga.
Analysis: Sow picked up his fifth yellow card in La Liga play and will serve a one-match suspension for Monday's clash against Real Sociedad. The midfielder has been a regular starter in the middle of the pitch for Sevilla this season, therefore his absence will force a change in the starting XI, with Nemanja Gudelj as a likely option to play in the heart of the game against the Basques.
