Sent off vs. Manchester United
Bentancur was sent off with a straight red card in Saturday's match against Manchester United.
Analysis: Bentancur engaged in a dispute with Luke Shaw, heading the left-back after a physical altercation and receiving a straight red card as a result. The midfielder is set to miss three games in a row due to the straight red card, meaning he'll miss the EPL matches against Coventry City, Chelsea and Crystal Palace. That means Bentancur's earliest chance to return will come against Leeds United on Nov. 7.
Leads Spurs in defensive output
Bentancur has started four of Tottenham's first five matches in 2026/27, going the full 90 minutes twice.
Analysis: Bentancur has held onto his starting role despite the summer arrivals of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Conor Gallagher, pairing with Tonali in central midfield as Tottenham have struggled for results early on. He leads all Premier League midfielders in overall defensive contributions at 14.52 per 90 minutes, leading with 3.63 tackles and 3.39 clearances per 90, numbers that reflect his deeper, more defensive role under new manager Roberto De Zerbi. With Tottenham sitting last in the table, his production should keep coming from tackles, interceptions and clearances rather than goals or assists.
