Breithaupt (undisclosed) is ruled out for Sunday's opener against Schalke, according to coach Manuel Baum. "Mounie and Breithaupt will be out for Sunday's game."
Analysis: Breithaupt returned to Augsburg after Fortuna Dusseldorf opted not to exercise the option to buy from his loan spell, during which he made 15 second division appearances with one assist. The defensive midfielder has struggled to break through at Augsburg, making just 18 top flight appearances since joining from Karlsruher SC in 2023, and his absence from the opener continues that difficult path to regular first team football.
Returns to Augsburg
