Busy defensively
Antonio Silva recorded two tackles (one won), nine clearances and two interceptions in Sunday's 1-0 loss to Liverpool. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 81st minute.
Analysis: Silva had everything to do during Sunday's loss. Liverpool sent wave-after-wave of attacks forward and Silva had to try and stand tall. He stopped a lot of them, but was finally undone by a nice bit of play by Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz. Silva should be able to recover during the international break as he seems to be taking a big role in the XI during his first Premier League campaign.
Six clearances in draw
Silva recorded one shot (one on goal) in Saturday's 2-2 draw versus Newcastle United.
Analysis: Silva registered one shot on goal across 90 minutes alongside a composed defensive shift, helping Bournemouth limit Newcastle to minimal clear-cut opportunities in the first half and holding the defensive structure together for most of the match before Newcastle's two second-half equalizers and ending the game with six clearances. He was part of a Bournemouth back line that was not seriously tested in open play during the first half. Silva has now started all three of Bournemouth's opening Premier League matches and his partnership with James Hill at center-back has conceded five goals across the campaign's opening three fixtures.
