Analysis: Gomes provided one assist during Tuesday's win, making the most of the start and creating a pair of chances. He's in the middle of a three-match suspension in the Premier League, so Gomes should get plenty of chances in cup competitions since he will be rested from league action.

Sent off in Villa debut

Gomes was shown a red card for violent conduct in the 39th minute of Sunday's match against Brighton.

Analysis: Gomes's dismissal came in his first official match under his new colors, hardly the debut he would have dreamed of. He'll miss at least one match as a result, meaning he's set to sit out Villa's next fixture against Arsenal on August 31 at minimum. Ross Barkley is expected to drop back into his role in his absence, with Lamare Bogarde also an option to fill in at that spot.
