Assists in 1-0 win
Gomes assisted once to go with one cross (one accurate) and one chance created in Saturday's 1-0 victory against Newcastle United. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 25th minute.
Analysis: Gomes assisted Johan Manzambi in the only goal of the game as Aston Villa travelled to St James' Park and won 1-0. This was his first goal involvement in the Premier League this season, having already provided an assist in an earlier Champions League game this season. Now that Gomes has an assist, he will be chasing another as he has failed to get more than one assist in any compeitition in a single year since moving to England.
Plays 86 minutes in midfield
Gomes registered one tackle (one won) and one clearance in Saturday's 2-2 draw against Brentford.
Analysis: Gomes contributed defensively during his 86 minutes on the pitch, recording one clearance and winning his only tackle as Villa battled for control in midfield. The midfielder has accumulated 10 tackles and three interceptions across three Premier League appearances this season, demonstrating his ability to disrupt opposition attacks. His recent involvement suggests he is becoming an increasingly important option in central midfield, although competition for starting places remains significant.
