Cleared for Villarreal clash
Svensson is fully fit and available for Tuesday's Champions League clash against Villarreal despite missing Monday's team training, according to coach Niko Kovac, per Ruhr24. "Both are completely healthy and are options for tomorrow's game."
Analysis: Svensson's individual work Monday was part of planned workload management rather than the result of an injury, with Dortmund giving him additional recovery following the recent Bundesliga fixture. The left-back therefore faces no restrictions heading into the Champions League opener and remains in contention for his usual role on the left side.
Surprise start against France
Svensson logged two accurate crosses and two tackles won in Tuesday's 3-0 defeat against France.
Analysis: Even though Sweden qualified for the World Cup's knockout stage, it was mostly without Svensson. For the Swedes' group-stage games, he barely logged more than 15 minutes and 10 passes. But for the Sweden-France game, Sweden opted to bench wingback Alexander Bernhardsson in favor of Svensson. Playing 90 minutes from the flank against an active France explains how he logged Sweden's most accurate crosses and tackles won, positives from his team's relatively disappointing performance. Now that the Swedish team's WC is finished, Svensson will shift his focus to club level and Borussia Dortmund.
