Shines in Germany victory
Wirtz scored and wore the captain's armband for Germany for the first time during Thursday's 2-0 Nations League win over Serbia, according to the club.
Analysis: Wirtz played a role in Germany's opening goal before doubling the advantage with a composed finish and taking over as captain for the second half. The strong international performance could provide a confidence boost after a relatively quiet start to the season offensively at club level. Wirtz has operated in an attacking midfield role under new manager Andoni Iraola, recording one assist and nine chances created across five Premier League appearances.
Quiet in win
Wirtz registered two shots (zero on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and three chances created in Sunday's 1-0 win versus AFC Bournemouth.
Analysis: Wirtz has had a frustrating time in Liverpool, but the underlying numbers are still good. He created three chances yet again, they just weren't finished. At some point the question becomes why he seems to create so many unfinished chances, but if he maintains this volume it seems impossible for him to remain so snakebitten.
