Set to miss out

Debast (leg) appears likely to miss out on Friday's quarterfinal against Spain after his club, Sporting, deemed he was unfit despite different claims from the Belgium camp, according to the RBFA, per Adam Crafton and Guillermo Rai of The Athletic. "Zeno will not be available for the quarter-finals. His club, Sporting CP, informed the player that they did not consider him medically fit to play matches. This assessment differs from that of the Red Devils' medical staff, as well as FIFA's medical and insurance authorities. Zeno is currently training individually under the supervision of the RBFA's Performance Department."

Analysis: Debast looks to be set for yet another match out at the 2026 World Cup, as his addition to the squad seems even more questionable after not appearing once this tournament. This is a blow for the team, as they hoped to recover a useful option, although they can survive after doing so in the previous games in this tournament. That said, he will hope for a return in the semifinals if his club allows it, although that will be tough to come by, as Belgium will need to pull off a major upset.

Trains partially with team

Debast (leg) returned to partial team training, with the defender expressing optimism over his recovery, the federation posted. "Everything is going according to plan, so we're feeling positive. I feel good, and today I'll be able to take part in parts of the team training."

Analysis: Debast had been working individually during Sunday's session, with his latest MRI scans coming back positive and showing no significant damage. His progression toward partial team training is another encouraging step as he targets a potential return for Belgium in the round of 16 should they advance past Senegal in the round of 32.
