Joins St. Louis on loan

Downs has joined St. Louis CITY SC on loan from Southampton through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, with a purchase option at the end of the deal, the club announced.

Analysis: Downs comes to MLS after a season without a club goal, failing to score in 10 Championship appearances for Southampton before a January loan to Hamburger SV produced no goals in nine Bundesliga outings. The move to MLS will give him an opportunity to regain the form that made him Koln's leading scorer during their promotion campaign with 10 goals in 2024-25 and earned him a move to England. He'll compete with Simon Becher for the No. 9 role and will hope MLS is where his finishing touch returns.
