Excellent in win at Chelsea
Fernandes generated one shot (zero on goal), five crosses (two accurate) and five corners in Saturday's 2-0 win against Chelsea. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 72nd minute.
Analysis: Fernandes was all over the pitch Saturday, helping Spurs earn an extremely rare win at Stamford Bridge. He created two chances, his first two since the second match of the season, and also recorded five crosses and five corners on the attack. He was excellent on the defensive end as well in the clean sheet, contributing three tackles, two clearances and one interception. This performance may earn him a more consistent place in the starting XI moving forward.
Shines with Portugal U21
Fernandes captained Portugal's U21 side to a 4-0 win over Gibraltar on Wednesday, playing the full 90 minutes and providing an assist.
Analysis: The talented playmaker was the engine of the Portuguese squad in this win, although they were overwhelming favorites and a four-goal differential was actually expected. Fernandes was one of Tottenham's marquee signings in the summer transfer window but has yet to get going for the Spurs. He has no goal contributions across five appearances (three starts), tallying six shots and five chances created.
