Trains fully, option moving forward
Gomis (lower leg) trained fully this week and is an option moving forward, the club posted.
Analysis: Gomis had returned to team training after leaving the France U21 squad early as a precaution following a knock suffered against Bayer Leverkusen, an issue described at the time as purely precautionary. His full week of training now confirms he has cleared that concern, positioning him to be available for Leipzig's next match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Oct. 10.
Resumes training with squad
Gomis (lower leg) returned to team training Tuesday after leaving the France U21 squad early as a precaution following a knock against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, according to the club training footage.
Analysis: Gomis was forced to leave the France U21 setup early after taking a knock to his lower leg in the defeat to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, though it was described as a precautionary measure rather than a confirmed longer-term absence. His return to team training with RB Leipzig is an encouraging development and suggests he has cleared the immediate concern. With the club's next match against Eintracht Frankfurt not until Oct. 10, he now has time to build back into normal work and should be available for that fixture barring any recurrence.
Leaves France U21 camp
Gomis has left France's U21 camp early as a precautionary measure, due to minor lower leg discomfort suffered in the recent Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen, according to BILD.
Analysis: Gomis took a light blow to the lower leg during that match, and both the French federation and RB Leipzig's medical department jointly agreed to send him back to Leipzig early to avoid any unnecessary injury risk. He had recently scored in the rout of Hamburger SV, continuing to be one of the positive stories for Leipzig early this season, and the club will hope he is fully available again once the international break concludes.
Nets in win
Gomis scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Sunday's 5-0 victory against Hamburger SV.
Analysis: Gomis scored during Sunday's win as well as creating a chance during the rout. It was a solid showing though this wasn't a competitive match, so it's not surprising that he did so well. Gomis will have to show that he can maintain this level against stronger opposition if he wants to earn more minutes.
Starts, assists in win over Gladbach
Gomis had an assist while taking four off target shots, crossing once accurately and creating two chances during Saturday's 3-0 win over Gladbach.
Analysis: Gomis drew the start in the number 9 role and didn't dissapoint, leading Leipzig in shots and setting up Ridle Baku for the opening goal in the 25th minute. After starting just three Bundesliga matches over the last two seasons, Gomis seized the opportunity Saturday and could remain in the role until Romulo returns to full fitness.
