Signs with Fenerbahce
Oppong has completed a transfer to Fenerbahce from Nice, according to his former club.
Analysis: Oppong is off to Turkey as he ends his current stint in France, off to join Fenerbahce as they look to top the Turkish league again. The defender is coming off a decent season with Nice, where he started in 28 of his 29 appearances, recording five clean sheets along the way. However, he was phased out of the squad this season, likely to see more time with his new club.
Returns to club for preseason
Oppong is back in Nice for preseason training following the World Cup with Ghana, according to the club.
Analysis: Oppong made 34 appearances for Nice last season, his debut campaign after arriving from Norrkoping last July, and posted the highest duel win percentage on the team among players with at least 500 minutes at above 60 percent. He earned two caps off the bench for Ghana at the World Cup, and his return to club training now shifts focus to building on a strong first season in Ligue 1 heading into the new campaign under new coach Olivier Pantaloni. Oppong should keep a regular role if he remains with the Aiglons, although a move is also an option since several clubs are interested in signing him this summer.
Named to bench
Oppong (undisclosed) is on the bench for Friday's match against Colombia.
Analysis: Oppong was expected to miss out Friday but has instead made the team, only earning a bench role. The major question is whether he will even receive time after the doubt, as he may not be able to give much to the team, and has only joined in case it is their final match. That said, he has appeared twice this tournament, although both appearances were from the bench.
Won't play vs. Colombia
Oppong has been ruled out for Friday's match against Colombia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 due to an undisclosed injury, according to Owuraku Ampofo of Flashscore.
Analysis: The extent of the injury is unknown, but the Nice defender won't be an option for the Black Stars' defensive line against a Colombian side that remains undefeated in the World Cup. Oppong came off the bench in Ghana's last two matches and is yet to make a start, so his absence shouldn't carry much weight from a fantasy perspective.
