Signs for Houston Dynamo
McGuire has been acquired by Houston Dynamo FC from Orlando City SC, the club announced. He is signed through 2027 with a club option for 2028.
Analysis: McGuire was Orlando's sixth overall pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft and went on to total 109 appearances, 32 goals, and seven assists across three-plus seasons with them, helping the club reach the postseason in each of those years. His rookie campaign was his best statistically, with 15 goals in 36 appearances that saw him finish runner-up for MLS Young Player of the Year, but his output tapered in the following seasons, including just two goals in 11 appearances this year before the league's World Cup break and a shoulder injury that limited him to 18 appearances last season. He has earned senior U.S. national team and Olympic caps along the way, and Dynamo president of soccer Pat Onstad pointed to his consistent scoring history and room to keep developing as reasons for the move, with Houston looking to add attacking depth as it pushes for a playoff spot
Scores off the bench in 4-3 win
McGuire scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Wednesday's 4-3 win over Philadelphia Union.
Analysis: McGuire scored to put Orlando 3-1 ahead with less than 20 minutes to go, before they went on to win the game 4-3. This is the forward's second goal of the year, having been on the bench in the last three games for Orlando and playing 31 minutes or less.
Back on bench
McGuire (lower leg) is on the bench for Saturday's meeting with Inter Miami.
Analysis: McGuire should be able to feature as a substitute, potentially replacing Justin Ellis or Martin Ojeda up front Saturday. In that case, the 25-year-old will aim to raise his current counts of six shots (four on target) and one goal over six matches played. He'll hope to regain a major role at some point if he avoids any injury setback.
