Wasteful in home defeat

Son Heung-Min registered four shots (zero on goal), three crosses (two accurate) and three corners in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to San Diego FC. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 97th minute.

Analysis: Son was unable to add to his four goals and eight assists so far this season as LAFC lost 1-0. Son took four shots and was unable to put any on target. One shot in particular saw the former Spurs attacker mishit an open goal opportunity. He did also create three chances and took three corners, completing two of his three crosses in the game.

Scores opener against Whitecaps

Son scored one goal to go with three shots (one on goal) in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Analysis: Son fired LAFC into the lead in the 37th minute with a composed finish that put the Black and Gold ahead against the run of play at BC Place, finishing the night with three shots (one on target) across 90 minutes. He also saw a free kick blocked by the Whitecaps' wall in the fifth minute of stoppage time as LAFC pushed for a late winner. Son is now up to 12 goal contributions and a team-high eight assists in MLS this season, while finding the back of the net four times in four matches since returning from the World Cup break.

MVP at MLS All-Star Game

Son scored two goals in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Liga MX All-Stars at the MLS All-Star Game and was named the match's MVP, according to the MLS.

Analysis: Son struck twice in a three minute span in the first half, both assisted by Carles Gil, setting the fastest multi-goal performance in MLS All-Star Game history as MLS improved to 4-1 all time in the rivalry. He has been red hot since returning to LAFC following the World Cup with South Korea, scoring three goals in his last three matches for LAFC, and his standout showing on the All-Star stage further cements his status as one of the league's most dangerous attacking threats heading into the second half of the season.

Breaks deadlock vs. SKC

Son scored one goal to go with four shots (two on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and one corner in Saturday's 4-0 victory versus Sporting Kansas City.

Analysis: Son found the back of the net just five minutes into the first half after a mistake at the back allowed the former Spurs forward to go clean through on the goal, and he didn't have problems slotting the ball past Stefan Cleveland. Son has scored in back-to-back games and is trending in the right direction after not being at his best in the early stages of the year.

Scores back to back goals

Son scored one goal to go with four shots (two on goal) and two chances created in Wednesday's 3-1 win versus Real Salt Lake.

Analysis: Son opened the scoring in the 11th minute, driving into space on the left side of the box and placing a low shot just inside the right post past Rafael for his second MLS goal since returning from South Korea's World Cup campaign. He finished with four shots (two on target) and two chances created across 72 minutes before being replaced by Jeremy Ebobisse, and was consistently dangerous in combination with Denis Bouanga throughout the first half.

Scores first MLS goal in 2026

Son scored one goal to go with six shots (two on goal) and one corner in Friday's 3-0 win versus Los Angeles Galaxy.

Analysis: Son scored LAFC's third goal in the second half to seal Friday's 3-0 El Trafico victory, the goal marking his 25th direct contribution (13 goals, 12 assists) in 27 MLS appearances since joining the club in August 2025. His goal was his first of the season in a game that matters and he also deferred the 45th minute penalty to Denis Bouanga rather than taking it himself, a gesture that underlined the bond within LAFC's attacking unit. Son's decisive in El Trafico this season makes him LAFC's most productive player across both leagues since his arrival.

Zero shots against Mexico

Son recorded one chance created and zero shots in Thursday's 1-0 loss to Mexico.

Analysis: Son struggled in Thursday's loss, as the South Korean forward was unable to record a single shot against the Mexican defense. This would eventually lead to his exit from the field, as he would be subbed off in the 57th minute. He should return to the starting XI in a very important match against South Africa on June 24, likely needing at least a point to advance.

Six shots, zero goals during win

Son logged six shots (one on goal), two crosses (zero accurate) and two corners in Thursday's 2-1 win against the Czech Republic.

Analysis: Korea Republic's team entered the 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cup with Son as its best player. Fast-forward to 2026, his fourth World Cup, and it is far from certain, unlike years before. Being the captain and placed up top, it should not be surprising that Son valiantly logged Korea's most shots, more than those from any two of his teammates combined. But for the first time since 2014, he was subbed off in a World Cup game. Son's replacement, Oh Hyun-Gyu, stepped up by scoring what resulted in the game-winning goal. How the Koreans will react to this development is interesting, especially given that Son is not in goal-scoring form, having not scored a non-friendly goal across 2026 thus far.

Set for major role in World Cup

Son is South Korea's top offensive talent and is expected to start throughout the upcoming international competition.

Analysis: At 33 years old, Son will look to make his mark in a fourth World Cup after finishing as the second-leading scorer in Asian qualifying with 10 goals, while adding four assists across 13 matches played. South Korea's captain remains the focal point of the attack and should be the team's first choice from the penalty spot. He's also likely to share a large portion of the corner- and free-kick duties with Kang-In Lee, increasing his already strong offensive upside. While his current stint with LAFC has been marked by a lack of goals, Son currently leads the MLS with eight assists, highlighting his playmaking ability. He should hold an almost guaranteed place in the lineup for a squad that is perfectly capable of threatening its first three rivals in the initial stage of the World Cup.

Seven shots in victory

Son had seven shots (two on goal), four crosses (zero accurate) and three corners in Sunday's 1-0 win versus Seattle Sounders FC.

Analysis: Son logged seven shots and completed three of six dribbles but was constantly swarmed by Seattle's defensive structure, with multiple markers collapsing on him at every touch, extending his MLS goal drought to 13 straight appearances. He still closes out the first half of the season as the league leader in assists with eight and goes into the World Cup break leading South Korea as captain. Son will head back to LAFC after the tournament with one clear mission, rediscover the finishing edge that once made him one of the Premier League's most feared attackers.

League-leading ninth assist in loss

Son took four shots (two on goal), took eight corners, sent in six crosses, created five chances, and assisted on a goal in Sunday's 3-2 loss to Nashville SC.

Analysis: Son stuffed the stat sheet in nearly every attacking category, racking up his league-leading ninth assist of the season in the process. He'll look to help LAFC get back in the win column at home on Sunday against a Seattle Sounders side that has conceded multiple goals in back-to-back games.

Provides assist against SD

Son assisted once to go with one shot (zero on goal), one cross (one accurate) and two chances created in Saturday's 2-2 draw against San Diego FC.

Analysis: Son came off the bench in the second half and instantly made an impact, threading the final pass that Denis Bouanga finished from a tight angle in the 82nd minute to cut it to 2-1 and ignite LAFC's late comeback push. The assist marked his seventh of the MLS season, and his arrival noticeably kicked LAFC's intensity into another gear as the Black and Gold controlled the closing stretch of the match. Son is still hunting his first goal of the season, but his chemistry with Bouanga off the bench proved to be the turning point in a wild finish that ended in a dramatic draw at Snapdragon Stadium.

Rested for CCC clash

Son (rest) has been left out of the squad for Saturday's 1-0 victory over Minnesota United to be kept fresh ahead of Wednesday's CONCACAF Champions Cup clash against Toluca, according to Athlon Sports.

Analysis: Son has been the centerpiece of LAFC's squad since his high-profile arrival from Tottenham in August 2025, and the club is clearly managing his minutes with the continental tournament as the primary target this season. Nathan Ordaz stepped up to take on a larger role in his absence, with LAFC prioritizing having their star forward fully rested and ready to go for the Toluca showdown. Son still has to score his first goal of the season with the Black and Gold in the MLS but already contributed six assists in eight league appearances.
