Assists on Saturday
Dorsch assisted once to go with one cross (one accurate) and one chance created in Saturday's 2-1 win against CF Montreal.
Analysis: Dorsch set up Lewis Morgan for the equalizer in the 95th minute with a brilliant cross. Dorsch covered over 10 kilometers, made 26 passes and also recorded two blocks, one clearance and one tackle. This was his first assist of the campaign.
Earns start versus Nashville
Dorsch (face) is in the initial lineup for Wednesday's meeting with Nashville.
Analysis: Dorsch will play again following a three-game absence, replacing Markus Cimermancic in central midfield. Despite playing a mostly defensive role, the German had found the back of the net in consecutive league appearances before getting hurt, so he could be an interesting all-around contributor if he stays healthy for the remainder of the season.
Set to return Wednesday
Dorsch (face) will be available for Wednesday's game against Nashville SC, according to Waking the Red.
Analysis: Dorsch has been training with a mask after undergoing facial surgery Aug. 21, and it seems the midfielder will return much earlier than initially expected. Having Dorsch back in the mix is huge for Toronto, especially since Djordje Mihailovic is set to miss time due to a hamstring injury. Dorsch has two goals in three starts since joining the Reds during the summer transfer window.
Trains wearing mask
Dorsch (face) was back in full training, wearing a mask following facial surgery, according to John Molinaro of TFC Republic.
Analysis: Dorsch is back in the mix for Toronto as he recovers from surgery, needing to undergo an operation on his face. He was able to fully join training while wearing a mask, warranting a return soon. That said, he could be back in the next two games, either when facing Chicago on Saturday or against Nashville on Sept. 9.
Undergoes successful surgery
Dorsch (face) underwent successful surgery Friday and doesn't have a timetable to return to action.
Analysis: This is a huge blow for Toronto FC, as Dorsch had recorded two goals, five shots and two chances created from his midfield role in his first three starts with the Reds. Alonso Coello and Markus Cimermancic figure to see an uptick in playing time while the star playmaker is out.
Dealing with facial fracture
Dorsch confirmed via Instagram that he suffered a facial fracture during Wednesday's match against Charlotte.
Analysis: Dorsch's recovery timeline remains unclear, yet he's virtually ruled out for the near future following his social post. This issue comes at an inopportune moment for both club and player, given that he had scored in two consecutive matches. He had operated mostly as a defensive midfielder but also moved further forward, so his loss could be covered by the team's more versatile options such as Alonso Coello and Markus Cimermancic.
Signs long-term Toronto deal
Dorsch has joined Toronto FC from FC Heidenheim on a contract through the 2030-31 season, the club annouced.
Analysis: The 28-year-old arrives off a difficult 2025/26 campaign in which Heidenheim were relegated from the Bundesliga after a three-year stay in the top flight. He was a regular fixture for the club throughout, making 27 starts in the Bundesliga last season. Across two spells with Heidenheim, Dorsch has logged five goals and 10 assists in 133 appearances in all competitions. He brings extensive experience from stints at Bayern Munich, KAA Gent, and FC Augsburg, with over 240 senior appearances, 12 goals, and 15 assists across those clubs. His high work rate and profile as a defensive-minded ball-winner in competitive European leagues should reinforce a Toronto FC midfield in need of stability.
