Andoni Gorosabel
Won't be option Sunday
Gorosabel won't be an option for Sunday's game against Sevilla due to a lingering adductor injury that has affected him since preseason, according to manager Manolo Gonzalez. "He's still dealing with a minor problem that has been lingering since his Athletic days, we want to have him back available soon."
Analysis: Gorosabel will be an option once he's fit, but that won't come this weekend. When healthy, Gorosabel will compete for minutes on the right side of the defense with Omar El Hilali. His next chance to play will come against Osasuna on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Joins Espanyol on loan
Gorosabel joined Espanyol from Athletic Club on loan for the entire 2026/27 season Tuesday. The deal includes a mandatory purchase option if some goals are met.
Analysis: Gorosabel will fill the void left by Ruben Sanchez, who joined Elche on a permanent deal before the end of the summer transfer window. The right-back was essentially the third-string option at the position for Athletic Club, but he should see more playing time at Espanyol due to his experience and defensive-minded approach.
Returns to team training
Gorosabel returned to team training Tuesday after missing Athletic Club's preseason friendlies due to adductor injury, according to bilbaohiria.
Analysis: Gorosabel has been dealing with an adductor injury in his right leg since the start of pre-season, one that Athletic's medical staff first flagged as moderate on July 6 and initially expected to sideline him for roughly two weeks, a timeline that stretched all the way to 36 days before his return to group training this Tuesday. Missing every friendly and being restricted to individualized work for that long points to a recovery that took longer than anticipated, even though being back with his teammates now is a genuine step forward. That progress, however, has no bearing on his future at the club, since Athletic remain open to moving him on this summer, with Jesus Areso and Hugo Rincon both ahead of him for minutes on the right side of defense.
Adductor injury confirmed
Gorosabel was diagnosed with a moderate injury to his right adductor longus muscle, according to the club.
Analysis: Gorosabel is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering the muscular issue, although the club did not provide a timetable for his return. The defender has been a regular option on the right side and his absence could create an opportunity for another player to step into the starting lineup. Recovery from adductor injuries can vary depending on the severity and the player's response to treatment. Gorosabel's progress will continue to be monitored as he works toward a return to action.
Registers most crosses
Gorosabel had eight crosses (three accurate) and three chances created in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo.
Analysis: Gorosabel registered the most crosses in the game, created three chances, and also made two tackles and an interception. This was his consecutive appearance off the bench, and he has started 15 times in his 23 appearances this campaign.
