Undergoes ankle surgery
Saelemaekers had an arthroscopic debridement and stabilization procedure on his right ankle in Amsterdam, Milan announced.
Analysis: Saelemaekers and the team eventually decided on the surgery a couple of weeks after he injured his ankle while training with Belgium. It's his second operation on the same joint in the span of a couple of seasons. According to Sky, he'll be sidelined for four to five months, thus missing a significant chunk of the campaign. Diego Moreira, Alphadjo Cisse and Omari Hutchison are set to absorb his workload in a few different roles.
Undergoing further evaluations
Saelemaekers took more tests on his ankle, which revealed a lack of stability stemming from the recent injury and a previous surgery, and will visit a specialist to decide how to address it, Milan announced.
Analysis: Saelemaekers had more exams as he wasn't improving while being held out of practice. He'll be sidelined for months if he and the doctors opt for the surgical solution, but the final call hasn't been made yet, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.
