Ends tournament with penalty miss
Timber had one interception in Monday's 1-1 (4-3) penalty shootout loss to Morocco.
Analysis: Timber would enter the field just ahead of the end of regulation, getting 34 minutes for his second appearance of the World Cup. He would only record an interception before stepping up in the penalty shootout, where he would miss for a generally bad match all-around. He only played 54 minutes all World Cup, notching a minimal 10 passes in his time on the field to go along with an interception, two tackles and two clearances.
Unused sub in Tunisia meeting
Timber (head) was available but didn't feature in Thursday's 3-1 victory over Tunisia.
Analysis: Timber was back on the game-day squad list after sitting out one tilt because of a concussion, but he didn't get any minutes. He operated off the bench in the first game, totaling one key pass, one cross (one accurate) and two tackles (zero won) in 20 minutes before getting hurt. He'll likely continue to serve as a sub in multiple roles.
Back available with Oranje
Timber rejoined full team training on Monday, completing the Netherlands' return to a fully available squad ahead of Thursday's fixture against Tunisia, according to ESPN NL.
Analysis: Timber had been dealing with a mild concussion that forced him to miss Saturday's win over Sweden, training separately on Sunday before joining the rest of the group on Monday. With Frenkie de Jong, Tijjani Reijnders and Ryan Gravenberch entrenched as the starting midfield trio, Timber's return is more about squad depth than an immediate push for regular playing time, though his availability removes one more fitness concern for coach Ronald Koeman.
Training away from group
Timber (concussion) was spotted training away from the group during Sunday's session, according to ESPN Netherlands.
Analysis: Timber didn't play in the 5-1 win over Sweden on Saturday, and he'll race against the clock to be fit for the group-stage finale against Tunisia on Thursday, June 25. The midfielder played 20 minutes off the bench in the opener against Japan, but with Frenkie de Jong, Tijjani Reijnders and Ryan Gravenberch as the starters in midfield, don't expect Timber to make a strong push for regular playing time even when he's fit and available.
Won't play vs. Sweden
Timber won't play against Sweden on Saturday after suffering a concussion in Thursday's training session.
Analysis: Timber is a depth piece in the Dutch midfield, so his absence isn't expected to have a big impact from a fantasy perspective ahead of this all-European clash against the Swedes. Timber will aim to return for the game against Tunisia on June 26, but it'll depend on how his symptoms progress in the coming days.
Available for Nice derby
Timber (undisclosed) returned to full team training this week and is available for Sunday's South Derby against Nice, according to coach Habib Beye.
Analysis: Timber had been held out of Saturday's clash against Lorient as a precaution to avoid a more serious muscular setback, but his clean training session puts him right back in contention for one of the most anticipated derbies on the calendar. The Dutchman has been one of Marseille's most impactful additions since arriving in the winter window, and getting him back in the middle of the park for a fixture of this magnitude is exactly what coach Habib Beye needed heading into the final stretch of the season.
