Makes first appearance in 2026
Romero had three saves and allowed two goals in Saturday's 2-2 draw against Atlanta United.
Analysis: With Matt Freese away on international duty, Romero got the call for his first MLS start of the season. He made three saves but conceded twice in Saturday's match against Atlanta. With Freese expected back for the Oct. 10 clash with Chicago, the keeper will likely return to the bench unless he's needed later on, with the regular season almost winding down.
Extends with NYCFC
Romero has completed a contract extension with NYCFC, according to his club.
Analysis: Romero is going to stick around NYCFC for the next few seasons, as the goalie signed through the 2027/28 season, with an option for the 2028/29 campaign. He remains their backup keeper since joining the team, only making four MLS appearances with NYCFC. He will likely remain in a backup role moving forward.
