Excels defensively versus Bayern
Kurucay recorded four tackles (three won) and five clearances in Saturday's 0-0 draw against Bayern Munich.
Analysis: Kurucay posted multiple clearances and tackles won for the second straight game, while the main highlight of his performance was a clearance off the goal line during the draw. The clean sheet was his first of the season, although he didn't finish the match as he subbed off for Maximilian Wober after 74 minutes of play. Both of those players should remain in contention for the left-sided center-back spot in upcoming fixtures, with the Turk hoping his recent success earns him credit to continue showcasing his defensive value.
Reliable center-back at Schalke
Kurucay ended the season as one of Schalke's most trusted defensive options, anchoring the center of the back line throughout the club's promotion-winning campaign with his physicality and aerial dominance.
Analysis: Kurucay brought experience and consistency to a Schalke defense that conceded sparingly throughout the season, contributing to four goals, 152 duels won, 52 tackles and 29 interceptions, forming a reliable partnership at the heart of the back line. Kurucay heads into the Bundesliga as an important defensive piece for Schalke, with his composure and reading of the game giving the club a trustworthy option as they prepare for the step up in quality.
