Nwobodo received a straight red card in the 16th minute of Wednesday's matchup versus Philadelphia Union.
Analysis: Nwobodo will serve suspension in the weekend clash against Charlotte after being punished for a dangerous tackle in the first half against Philadelphia. Thus, his next chance to produce will come in a Sept. 19 trip to Houston Dynamo. Losing him for nearly all of the double game week represents a significant blow for a midfield that is left with Gerardo Valenzuela, Samuel Gidi and Pavel Bucha as their main ball distributor choices.
Assists versus San Jose
Nwobodo assisted once to go with two shots (zero on goal) and two chances created in Saturday's 4-2 win over San Jose Earthquakes.
Analysis: Nwobodo created Evander's goal in the 82nd minute with his first assist in the campaign to give Cinnnati the 3-2 lead, their fist lead in the match. The midfielder also matched his season-high with two chances created. That was his fourth start in a row and seventh overall in 13 appearances.
On bench Saturday
Nwobodo (leg) is among the substitutes for Saturday's meeting with Charlotte.
Analysis: Nwobodo hasn't played since April 11, so he's now expected to make a gradual return to action if he avoids any injury setbacks. He should be used as a central midfielder, in which case he'll be a potential source of passes and defensive stats but could commit some fouls as was the trend before his absence. He'll challenge Samuel Gidi and Gerardo Valenzuela for starting spots in the future.
Returns to training
Nwobodo (leg) is back in training, according to Laurel Pfahler of The Queen City Press.
Analysis: Nwobodo had to miss the past few weeks with a leg injury but is looking to be an option for their next match, as he has returned to full training. His addition back to the team will be a good source of depth with his thre starts in six appearances, although the midfielder is still looking for his first goal contribution of the season.
