Anchoring Monaco's back line
Dier has started and played every minute of Monaco's first five Ligue 1 matches, scoring one goal and assisting once.
Analysis: Dier leads the team with 450 league minutes and has contributed one goal and one assist. He scored in the season-opening win at Le Havre and supplied an assist against Marseille, adding production to his regular defensive role. The Englishman had a difficult season last year due to injuries but seems to be back to full speed, holding the main defensive leading role under new coach Filipe Luis.
Provides assist in victory
Dier assisted once to go with one shot (zero on goal) and one chance created in Sunday's 2-0 victory over Marseille.
Analysis: Dier delivered the assist on Paris Brunner's second goal, playing a lofted ball over Marseille's defense that the German latched onto before finishing clinically past Jeffrey De Lange. He also registered one shot and one chance created to go with an impressive 14 clearances across 90 minutes while helping anchor a Monaco back line alongside Sadibou Sane that kept a clean sheet against Marseille's best attacking efforts. Dier has now started both of Monaco's opening Ligue 1 fixtures and provided the decisive pass in a derby win that sends the Principality club top of the table.
