Spierings is expected to be inactive for the time being after picking up an ankle injury, the MLS reported Friday.
Analysis: Spierings is a defensive midfielder who has been an important piece in RSL's lineup, providing the defensive structure and ball-winning intensity that allows the team to press effectively, and his ankle injury is a significant blow to the squad. Noel Caliskan and Pablo Ruiz might carry most of the midfield workload until Spierings is ready to play agin. However, a return timeline will depend on the severity of the ankle problem, which remains to be determined.

Analysis: During the second half, Spierings logged an excellent through-ball to Zavier Gozo, who subsequently scored Real Salt Lake's third goal. Since early-April, each of the former's seven appearances includes a start, so it looks like that is how RSL will operate moving forward.
